Fortune Teller

TownsfolkTrouble Brewing

The Fortune Teller investigates pairs of players each night to detect the presence of a Demon, though they must contend with a 'Red Herring' good player who gives a false positive. Their strength lies in clearing players by receiving 'no' results, gradually narrowing down the Demon's location through process of elimination.

Ability

Each night, choose 2 players: you learn if either is a Demon. There is a good player that registers as a Demon to you.

Night Ritual (Storyteller Instructions)

Each Night

"The Fortune Teller points to two players. Give a yes if one is the Demon (or red herring)."

Strategy Guide

Playing As

  • Getting a 'no' result is often more valuable than a 'yes' because it definitively clears two players (barring a Vortox or Poisoner), whereas a 'yes' could be the Demon or your Red Herring.
  • You can choose yourself as one of the two players to isolate the reading on the second player, though be aware that you might be your own Red Herring.
  • Be cautious of the Recluse, as they can register as a Demon to you, potentially creating a second false positive alongside your Red Herring.
  • Coordinate with the town to execute or test your 'yes' pings; killing your Red Herring is often necessary to clear up your information.
  • Consider bluffing as a lower-priority target like the Saint or Soldier early in the game to survive long enough to gather a chain of information.

Playing Against

  • Bluffing as the Fortune Teller is a strong strategy for Demons, as you can accuse good players of registering as a Demon by claiming they are your Red Herring.
  • If you are the Spy, identify who the Red Herring is so the evil team can frame that player or validate the real Fortune Teller's false info.
  • As a Poisoner, targeting the Fortune Teller is highly effective; giving them a false 'no' on the Demon or a false 'yes' on a good player can ruin the good team's logic.
  • Be aware that the Fortune Teller can check dead players, so the Demon killing a player does not stop the Fortune Teller from checking them later.
