Assassin
The Assassin is a Minion with a single, unstoppable kill that bypasses all protection. They excel at removing hard-to-kill targets or manipulating the night's death count to hide which Demon is in play.
Ability
Once per game, at night*, choose a player: they die, even if for some reason they could not.
Night Ritual (Storyteller Instructions)
Other Nights
"If the Assassin has not yet used their ability: The Assassin either shows the 'no' head signal, or points to a player. That player dies."
Strategy Guide
Playing As
- Communication with your Demon is critical; ensure you do not target the same player, as your ability is wasted if you double up.
- Target players who are otherwise unkillable, such as the Fool, Sailor, or neighbors of a Tea Lady, to remove threats and cast doubt on their information.
- Time your kill to obfuscate the Demon type; for example, kill on a night a Zombuul cannot, or add a kill to simulate a Shabaloth or Po.
- If the Demon is blocked by an Exorcist or Courtier, use your ability to ensure a death still occurs, keeping the fear alive.
- In a Mastermind game, if the Demon dies, use your ability immediately to convince the town the Demon is still alive.
Playing Against
- There is no defense against an Assassin kill; protection roles like the Innkeeper, Tea Lady, Monk, or Fool cannot save the target.
- Monitor the death count closely; an unexplained extra death is the strongest indicator an Assassin is in play.
- If a protected player dies, do not immediately assume the protector is drunk or poisoned; consider the Assassin cutting through the defense.
- The Chambermaid can detect the Assassin waking every night until they use their ability, which distinguishes them from Minions with different wake patterns.
- If the Demon is executed but deaths continue, be wary of an Assassin using their kill to mimic a living Demon (especially with a Mastermind).
Interactions
Can add a kill during a Po charge or normal night to confuse the town about the Po's state.
ZombuulCan kill on nights the Zombuul is 'dead' or unable to act, masking the specific Demon type.
Tea Lady/Innkeeper/SailorThe Assassin serves as a direct counter, killing through their protection and making them look suspicious or drunk.
MastermindCan simulate a continuing game by killing after the Demon is executed.
GossipCan time their kill to make a false Gossip statement appear true.
