Butler
An Outsider who binds their vote to a different player each night, losing the autonomy to vote unless their chosen 'Master' also votes. This restriction forces them to identify trustworthy players to ensure their vote counts for the good team.
Ability
Each night, choose a player (not yourself): tomorrow, you may only vote if they are voting too.
Night Ritual (Storyteller Instructions)
Each Night
"The Butler points to a player. Mark that player as 'Master'."
Strategy Guide
Playing As
- Choose a 'Master' you believe is good, such as a confirmed Virgin, so your vote helps the good team.
- Selecting the player to your immediate right is tactically sound, as they vote just before you, giving you time to react.
- You are never forced to vote if your Master does; you are only prevented from voting if they do not.
- Build trust by telling a player you have chosen them as your Master; they may protect you to keep your vote available.
- Choosing a dead player is risky as they may save their single vote for later, leaving you unable to vote at all until they use it.
Playing Against
- Observe voting patterns; a player who constantly watches another before raising their hand may be the Butler.
- If the Outsider count seems incorrect, investigate the Butler claim as it is a common low-risk bluff for evil players.
- Executing the Butler is often safe; it confirms the Outsider count via the Undertaker and frees the player's ghost vote from restriction.
Interactions
As a confirmed good player, the Virgin is the ideal candidate for the Butler to choose as a Master.
LibrarianCan learn the Butler is in play and verify them, creating an immediate trust pair.
UndertakerCan execute the Butler to verify the Outsider count and confirm no Drunk/Baron manipulation.
BaronThe presence (or absence) of the Butler contributes to the math for determining if a Baron is in play.
