Devil's Advocate
A Minion that prevents death by execution for one player each day, capable of frustrating the good team's primary method of killing the Demon. They are particularly dangerous in the late game, where they can force a stalemate or evil win by protecting the Demon on the final day.
Ability
Each night, choose a living player (different to last night): if executed tomorrow, they don't die.
Night Ritual (Storyteller Instructions)
First Night
"The Devil's Advocate points to a living player. That player survives execution tomorrow."
Other Nights
"The Devil's Advocate points to a living player, different from the previous night. That player survives execution tomorrow."
Strategy Guide
Playing As
- Bluff as a character that survives execution (Sailor, Fool, Tea Lady, Pacifist) to explain why your target did not die.
- Protect the Demon on critical days, especially the final day, but manage your timing since you cannot choose them two nights in a row.
- Protect good players occasionally to frame them as suspicious or to simulate a Pacifist, causing the town to waste executions.
- Protect yourself or other Minions to maintain the evil team's voting majority and active abilities for as long as possible.
Playing Against
- Execute the same suspicious player twice in a row; the Devil's Advocate cannot protect the same player on consecutive nights.
- Analyze survived executions carefully; if they cannot be explained by a Tea Lady, Pacifist, Sailor, or Fool, a Devil's Advocate is likely in play.
- Prioritize finding and executing the Devil's Advocate before the Demon, as a living DA can make the Demon unkillable on the final day.
- Be wary of players who are indifferent about which day they are executed, as they may know they are protected for that specific day.
Interactions
Prevents the Zombuul from 'dying' and registering as dead, maintaining their ability to vote and confusing the town's count of living players.
Tea Lady / Pacifist / Sailor / FoolThese characters serve as perfect bluffs for the Devil's Advocate or their protected targets.
MinstrelBy preventing a Minion's death by execution, the Devil's Advocate stops the Minstrel from triggering their ability to intoxicate the town.
MastermindKeeping the Mastermind alive ensures the evil team has a backup win condition if the Demon is executed.
