Minstrel
The Minstrel is a passive Townsfolk who halts the game's magical mechanics for a full day and night if the town successfully executes a Minion. This drunkenness stops the Demon from killing, providing powerful confirmation that a Minion was removed.
Ability
When a MinionAn evil player who knows who the Demon is and helps them win. dies by executionThe deliberate killing of a player by the town during the day., all other players (except Travellers) are drunkHas no ability but thinks they do. The Storyteller feeds them false information. They cannot affect the game state. until dusk tomorrow.
Strategy Guide
Playing As
- Stay alive by bluffing as a less threatening target or a passive character until a Minion is caught.
- Aggressively push for executions, as your ability only activates when a Minion dies by execution.
- Use nights with zero deaths as confirmation that the previously executed player was a Minion (while ruling out other causes like the Exorcist or Po charging).
- Warn information-gathering roles that their info will be unreliable if you trigger, as everyone becomes drunk.
- Reveal your role once you believe you have triggered to confirm the Minion death and consolidate the good team's trust.
Playing Against
- The Demon should prioritize killing the Minstrel early to prevent Minion confirmation.
- As a Demon (especially Po), consider choosing not to kill after a good player is executed to simulate a Minstrel trigger and frame the executed player as a Minion.
- Minions can double-claim Minstrel to confuse the town, though this risks getting executed and triggering the actual Minstrel.
- Evil players can blame false information or failed abilities (like a failed Gambler pick) on a fake Minstrel trigger.
Interactions
These characters can also cause nights with no deaths, which mimics the Minstrel's signal; careful deduction is required to distinguish the cause.
Chambermaid / GamblerTheir abilities will malfunction (yielding drunk info or failing) during the Minstrel's drunken phase, so they must be warned not to trust their night's results.
Devil's AdvocateIf the Minstrel triggers, the Devil's Advocate is drunk the following day and cannot save the Demon from execution.
TinkerWill not die randomly during the day if the Minstrel has made everyone drunk.
MastermindExecuting the Assassin or another Minion stops the Mastermind from acting, preventing a surprise loss.
