Fang Gu
A Demon that can possess an Outsider to save themselves, turning the Outsider into the new evil Demon while the original dies. This adds an extra Outsider to the game setup.
Ability
Night Ritual (Storyteller Instructions)
Other Nights
"The Fang Gu points to a player. That player dies. Or, if that player was an Outsider and there are no other Fang Gu in play: The Fang Gu dies instead of the chosen player. The chosen player is now an evil Fang Gu. Wake the new Fang Gu. Show the YOU ARE card, then the Fang Gu token. Show YOU ARE EVIL."
Strategy Guide
Playing As
- Identify the Outsiders early to establish your 'jump' targets for later in the game.
- Coordinate with your Minions before you jump so they know who the new Demon will be, as they won't automatically learn this information.
- Bluff as a character that benefits from dying at night (like the Sage or Sweetheart) so your death during a jump looks suspicious or strategic for the good team.
- If you are cornered, attack a known Outsider to kill yourself and pass the demonhood to a player the town likely trusts.
- Use the extra Outsider in play (+1 Outsider setup) to validate Minion bluffs or confuse the town's count.
Playing Against
- Count the Outsiders carefully; if there are more claims than the script allows, a Fang Gu is likely in play.
- Execute Outsiders proactively to remove the Demon's escape routes or to kill a Demon hiding in an Outsider bluff.
- If a player dies at night but no one claims to be the victim of a specific killer, it may be the Fang Gu jumping; watch who the dead player communicates with immediately after.
- As an Outsider, keep your identity secret as long as possible to avoid being hunted and turned evil.
Interactions
Can turn a specific player into an Outsider just before the Fang Gu attacks them, forcing a specific player to become the new Demon.
Sweetheart / Barber / KlutzIf the Fang Gu jumps to these Outsiders, their on-death abilities do not trigger because they do not die; they transform instead.
OracleCan detect the dead Fang Gu, confirming that a jump has occurred.
Scarlet WomanIf the Fang Gu jumps to an Outsider, the Scarlet Woman ability does not trigger because a Demon is still alive (the new Fang Gu).
