Oracle

TownsfolkSects & Violets

The Oracle is an information role that tracks the number of dead evil players, acting as a barometer for the game's state. They are excellent at confirming the alignment of the graveyard and detecting Demons that falsify information or preserve dead Minions.

Strategy Guide

Playing As

  • Track your number carefully; a '0' is powerful as it confirms all dead players are good, allowing you to build a trusted voting block with the graveyard.
  • Watch for sudden increases in your number; an increment usually means the most recent death was evil, which helps identify Minions or accidental Demon swaps.
  • Use your ability as a 'Vortox check'; if you receive a '1' on a night where only trustworthy good players have died (or the first night), it is a strong signal that a Vortox is in play.
  • Combine your information with the Flowergirl or Town Crier; knowing an evil player is dead helps contextualize their data about voting and minion activity.
  • You can choose to come out early to direct executions or stay hidden to verify claims late-game; staying hidden prevents the Demon from knowing you are tracking their kill count.

Playing Against

  • Bluff as the Oracle to manipulate the town's trust in dead players; confirming a dead player as 'good' can build a trust block for the evil team to hide in.
  • As a Minion, bluffing Oracle is safer than other roles because you do not need to provide information until Night 2, giving you time to coordinate with the Demon.
  • If a Vortox is in play, consider leaving the Oracle alive; their information will be mathematically false (e.g., detecting evil dead when none have died), which can confuse the town if they don't realize it's a Vortox game.
  • Be aware that the Oracle can detect a Vigormortis game by noticing the evil dead count increase even when a Minion seems to retain their ability.
  • If you are the No Dashii, sitting next to the Oracle is ideal as their poisoned information can lead the town astray without obvious evidence like a Vortox would provide.
