Bureaucrat
The Bureaucrat is a Traveller who grants a chosen player three votes instead of one for the following day. This ability allows for massive swings in execution math, making them a powerful asset or a dangerous liability depending on their alignment.
Ability
Each night, choose a player (not yourself): their vote counts as 3 votes tomorrow.
Strategy Guide
Playing As
- If good, prioritize giving votes to confirmed players, such as a Virgin or someone cleared by a Washerwoman.
- If evil, generally choose evil players but mix in good players to maintain trust, saving a game-winning triple vote for the final day.
- You can choose dead players; giving a dead player a triple vote can be a powerful surprise since they otherwise only have one vote.
- Communicate with the town about who you picked to coordinate execution thresholds, or lie to test players' reactions.
Playing Against
- Pay attention to which players receive the triple vote; if they consistently vote against the town's interests, the Bureaucrat may be evil.
- Consider exiling the Bureaucrat before a critical vote occurs, as their ability stops working immediately upon death, stripping the triple vote.
- Be wary of nominations on the final day, as an evil Bureaucrat can swing the game by giving a Minion or Demon triple voting power.
- Coordinate the town's vote count carefully, remembering that the Storyteller counts the triple vote out loud.
Interactions
If the Bureaucrat and Thief choose the same player, the effects combine, potentially giving the player -3 votes or canceling out the bonus.
VirginA triggered Virgin is a confirmed good player, making them one of the safest and most effective targets for the triple vote.
ButlerAvoid choosing the Butler, as their inability to vote without their master makes the triple vote unreliable.
SaintAn evil Bureaucrat can force a Saint execution with the extra votes, or a good one can help save them.
