Deviant
The Deviant is a Traveller who gains immunity from exile by entertaining the group or satisfying a social criteria set by the Storyteller. This allows them to remain a persistent voting presence throughout the game, serving as a powerful ally to whichever team they belong to.

If you were funny today, you cannot die by exileThe removal of a Traveler from the game..
Strategy Guide
Playing As
- Negotiate with the Storyteller if 'being funny' is too much pressure; alternative criteria like 'being helpful' or 'creating a positive mood' are often accepted.
- Leverage your voting power; unlike most players who die off, you are likely to survive until the final day, giving you significant influence over the game's outcome.
- Do not hog the spotlight to be funny; your goal is to facilitate a good atmosphere, not to disrupt the town's ability to solve the game.
- If playing as Evil, use your persistent vote to protect the Demon or throw off vote counts, but be wary that your long life makes your voting history easy to analyze.
Playing Against
- Do not waste time nominating the Deviant if they have clearly met their criteria (being funny) for the day, as the Storyteller will likely block the exile.
- If the Deviant is voting with the evil team or disrupting the town, the Demon must be convinced to kill them at night, as they are only immune to daytime exile.
- Watch their voting patterns closely; since they survive execution, they generate a lot of data over the course of the game regarding who they support.
Interactions
The Deviant is an excellent ally for an Evil Twin, as the game often stalls into a voting race where the Deviant's un-exilable vote is crucial.
CerenovusBeing made 'Mad' can make it difficult to fulfill the 'be funny' criteria naturally, or conversely, the madness performance can be used to satisfy the Deviant's requirement.
VigormortisSince the Vigormortis keeps Minions abilities but loses their votes upon death, a living Evil Deviant helps maintain the evil team's voting majority threshold.
