Cerenovus
The Cerenovus is a Minion who causes chaos by forcing players to bluff as specific good characters under threat of execution. This ability suppresses information and can cause the town to waste executions on good players or even corpses.
Ability
Each night, choose a player & a good character: they are "madThe player must genuinely try to convince others that something is true, or suffer a penalty (usually execution)." they are this character tomorrow, or might be executed.
Night Ritual (Storyteller Instructions)
Each Night
"The Cerenovus chooses a player and character. Wake the target. Show THIS CHARACTER SELECTED YOU, the Cerenovus token, and the madness character."
Strategy Guide
Playing As
- Target high-value information characters (like the Savant, Flowergirl, or Oracle) to prevent them from sharing their true data with the group.
- Chain-target a single player ('perma-madness') to effectively silence them for the entire game, or switch targets to spread confusion and distrust.
- Target a dead player to force an execution on them, depriving the town of a useful execution on a living player.
- Coordinate with your fellow Minions; target an Evil Twin to make their bluff seem sincere, or target a player swapped by the Pit-Hag to cover the change.
- Target yourself or a Minion on the first night to establish a bluff, allowing you to later claim you were 'mad' to explain away inconsistencies.
Playing Against
- If targeted, commit to the madness enthusiastically; the Storyteller judges sincerity, and a half-hearted attempt often leads to execution.
- Consider breaking madness and accepting death if your true information (e.g., Savant, Oracle) is more valuable than your life.
- Watch for players who suddenly change their claim or give information that contradicts previous statements, as they are likely Cerenovus targets.
- Be aware that the Cerenovus can target dead players; if a corpse is executed, it wastes the town's only execution for the day.
- You can try to subtly signal madness (e.g., incorporating the Cerenovus into your bluff), but this is risky and depends on Storyteller leniency.
Interactions
Forcing a player to be mad they are an Outsider can trigger the Mutant's execution condition or frame a good player as the Mutant.
Pit-HagCan mask a character swap by forcing the victim to continue claiming their old character or a specific new one.
Evil TwinCan grant legitimacy to the Evil Twin by forcing them (or the Good Twin) to adhere strictly to a specific character claim.
SavantA prime target for madness; forcing a player to invent complex Savant info creates chaos, while silencing a real Savant hurts the good team.
No DashiiCan target players far from the Demon to draw suspicion away from the poisoned neighbors, or target the poisoned players to mask their bad info.
