Mutant
Outsider•Sects & Violets
An Outsider who must actively lie to the town about their identity to avoid immediate execution by the Storyteller. Their death ends the day immediately, potentially denying the town the chance to nominate and execute a demon.
Ability
Strategy Guide
Playing As
- Commit to a specific Townsfolk bluff (like Clockmaker or Oracle) early and stick to it to avoid suspicion.
- Avoid silence when asked for your character, as the Storyteller can interpret a refusal to claim as being mad about being an Outsider.
- You can reveal your identity secretly to one or two trusted players to coordinate, but be careful of evil players overhearing.
- If you need to prove you are good, you can intentionally break madness to trigger your own execution, though this consumes the day's vote.
Playing Against
- As the Storyteller, execute the Mutant if they hint at being an Outsider to waste the town's single execution for the day.
- As a minion like the Cerenovus, making the Mutant mad about being the Mutant forces a catch-22 where they likely die either way.
- As the Pit-Hag, transforming a verified good player into a Mutant forces them to start lying or die, ruining their trust circle.
- Pay attention to players whose information doesn't quite add up or who refuse to claim a character; they may be a Mutant afraid to speak.
Interactions
Fang Gu
You are a jump target for the Fang Gu; hiding your identity effectively prevents the Demon from gaining an extra evil player.
CerenovusThis Minion can force you to be mad as the Mutant, which almost guarantees your execution or penalty.
Pit-HagCan turn you or others into a Mutant to silence information or force deaths.
Savant/ArtistIf you trigger your execution early in the day, you may prevent these characters from visiting the Storyteller for information.
