Scapegoat
Traveller•Trouble Brewing
A Traveller who serves as an extra life for their team by dying in place of an ally during an execution. This sacrifice confirms that the Scapegoat and the saved player share an alignment.
Ability
If a player of your alignment is executed, you might be executed instead.
Strategy Guide
Playing As
- Your primary goal is to stay alive long enough to save a critical teammate, such as a powerful Townsfolk or the Demon.
- If you are good, create a trust bond immediately with the player you saved, as you are mechanically confirmed to be on the same team.
- Since you have no active ability to prove yourself, use your voice to convince the town of your alignment so that when you eventually die for someone, the town trusts them too.
- As evil, acting as a buffer for the Demon is your strongest utility; try to signal the Demon that you are on their side.
Playing Against
- If the Scapegoat dies in place of another player, you know those two players share an alignment (unless the Spy is involved).
- To bypass the Scapegoat's ability, use the Exile mechanic instead of Execution, as the ability only triggers on Execution.
- Be aware that the Storyteller decides when the trigger happens, often to prolong the game or balance the odds.
Interactions
Virgin
The Scapegoat can die in place of a Townsfolk who nominates the Virgin, confirming the Virgin without losing a player.
SaintIf the Saint is about to be executed (which would cause the good team to lose), the Scapegoat can intervene and die instead.
ImpCan save the Demon from execution, giving the evil team an extra night of kills.
SpyCan register as the Scapegoat's alignment to trigger the save, falsely confirming the Spy as a good player.
