Snake Charmer

TownsfolkSects & Violets

The Snake Charmer is a high-risk Townsfolk who tests players nightly to see if they are the Demon, effectively confirming non-Demon players if no swap occurs. If they choose the Demon, they swap roles and alignments, becoming the new Evil Demon while crippling the old one.

Ability

Each night, choose an alive player: a chosen Demon swaps characters & alignments with you & is then poisoned.

Night Ritual (Storyteller Instructions)

Each Night

"The Snake Charmer points to a player. If that player is the Demon: swap the Demon and Snake Charmer character and alignments. Wake each player and show them YOU ARE and their new role and alignment. The new Snake Charmer is poisoned."

Strategy Guide

Playing As

  • Your primary information is negative confirmation; every player you choose who does not trigger a swap is confirmed to not be the Demon.
  • Choosing yourself is a valid strategy to ensure you remain Good and survive, though it sacrifices information gathering.
  • If you swap and become the Demon, you immediately join the Evil team; you must be prepared to bluff, as the former Demon (now Good) knows everything and will likely out you.
  • Delay revealing your role publicly; if the Demon knows who you are, they may kill you at night to avoid the risk of being swapped.
  • If you suspect a specific player is the Demon, decide if you want to win as Evil by picking them, or if you'd rather narrow down the field for the Good team by picking others.

Playing Against

  • Minions must watch for sudden behavioral changes in their Demon, as this may indicate a Snake Charmer swap has occurred.
  • If the Demon claims to have been swapped, they are now Good and a threat; the new Demon (former Snake Charmer) should try to discredit or kill them immediately.
  • Bluffing as the Snake Charmer is a risky but viable strategy for a Demon to explain why they are still alive late in the game (claiming they chose themselves).
  • If a swap occurs, the new Demon lacks the starting information; Minions may need to guide them or re-establish trust aggressively.
