Barber
An Outsider whose death triggers a powerful ability allowing the Demon to swap two players' characters. This often moves the Demon to a new player or revives dangerous Minion abilities, invalidating gathered information.
Ability
Night Ritual (Storyteller Instructions)
Other Nights
"If the Barber died today: Wake the Demon. Show the THIS CHARACTER SELECTED YOU card, then Barber token. The Demon either shows a 'no' head signal, or points to 2 players. If they chose players: Swap the character tokens. Wake each player. Show YOU ARE, then their new character token."
Strategy Guide
Playing As
- Your primary goal is to survive; bluff as a character the Demon does not want to kill, such as the Sage, or a 'spent' character like the Artist.
- If you die, do not reveal yourself immediately; wait for swapped players to come forward so you can validate their claims.
- Coordinate with the group if you must die by execution, ensuring the town is ready to track changes immediately.
- Be aware that dying at night is the worst outcome, as it gives the evil team a silent, powerful utility.
Playing Against
- The Demon can swap themselves with a Minion to invalidate information from characters like the Flowergirl, Savant, or Dreamer.
- Swap a dead Minion (e.g., Pit-Hag or Cerenovus) into a living player to bring their ability back into the game.
- In a No Dashii game, swapping the Demon moves the source of poison, disrupting the good team's logic regarding poisoned neighbors.
- Doing nothing is a valid strategy; simply claiming a swap occurred when one didn't can create paranoia and waste execution attempts.
- Avoid swapping a Vigormortis, as this removes the ability for their dead Minions to retain powers and stops the poison on neighbors.
Interactions
Swapping the Demon changes which players are poisoned, breaking the town's logic on healthy/poisoned neighbors.
Pit-HagCan create a Barber mid-game to facilitate a Demon swap, or be swapped into a living body to continue manipulating the character list.
SageA Demon can swap out of their role to avoid triggering the Sage, or swap the Sage into a different character to neutralize them.
SavantSwapping the Demon invalidates the Savant's previous information about the Demon's nature or location.
Evil TwinSwapping the Evil Twin can confuse the town regarding the twin pair dynamic or remove the Good Twin's win condition.
