Godfather
The Godfather is a Minion that manipulates the game setup by adding or removing an Outsider and knowing exactly who they are. They punish the town for killing Outsiders by gaining an extra kill at night when one dies during the day.
Ability
You start knowing which Outsiders are in play. If 1 died today, choose a player tonight: they die. [-1 or +1 OutsiderA good player with a detrimental ability.]
Night Ritual (Storyteller Instructions)
First Night
"Show each of the Outsider tokens in play."
Other Nights
"If an Outsider died today: The Godfather points to a player. That player dies."
Strategy Guide
Playing As
- Use your starting knowledge to identify the specific Outsiders in play, allowing you to bluff as an absent Outsider or counter real ones.
- Aggressively campaign for the execution of Outsiders to trigger your ability and gain an extra kill at night.
- Coordinate with the Demon to optimize your extra kill, ensuring you don't target the same player or using the double-tap to break through protection.
- If the script setup has -1 Outsider, use the absence of Outsiders to create safe bluffs for the Demon or yourself.
- Manage the Lunatic if you see they are in play; knowing their identity allows you to keep up the ruse or set them up as a scapegoat.
Playing Against
- Count the claimed Outsiders; a deviation of +1 or -1 from the expected setup strongly suggests a Godfather is in play.
- Avoid executing claimed Outsiders if possible, as doing so hands the evil team a free extra kill at night.
- Analyze death patterns; if an extra death occurs at night immediately following an Outsider's day death, it confirms the Godfather.
- If you confirm a Godfather in a single-Minion game, you can safely rule out the presence of other Minions like the Mastermind or Devil's Advocate.
- Be aware that the Godfather knows exactly which Outsiders are in play, meaning they can easily bluff as one or counter specific Outsider claims.
Interactions
A Tinker dying during the day (often at Storyteller discretion) is the easiest way to trigger the Godfather's kill without spending an execution.
LunaticThe Godfather knows immediately if a Lunatic is in play, preventing accidental reveals and aiding in the 'fake Demon' strategy.
ZombuulGodfather kills can mask the Zombuul's inability to kill during the day or simulate a living Demon when the Zombuul is 'dead'.
MoonchildExecuting a Moonchild can result in two extra deaths (one from the Moonchild, one from the Godfather), devastating the town.
GoonKnowing the Goon is in play allows the Godfather to plan around turning them evil rather than accidentally killing them.
